This past week I was at a wedding, and like most weddings, I found myself in those conversations where people ask the usual:
“So, what do you do?”
I smiled and gave the short answer: “I own a gym.”
But that’s never the whole story.
Because the real question—the one that matters—isn’t what I do.
It’s why I do it.
A Bigger Problem Than We Realize
We live in a time where people are living longer than ever before. On paper, that sounds like progress. But here’s the reality:
- We’re living longer, but often feeling worse.
- Many of us are propped up by medications and quick fixes.
- Stress, fatigue, and burnout are at an all-time high.
- And so many people feel unimportant—like they’re just trying to survive the day.
It’s not that people don’t want to feel better. It’s that they don’t know where to start, or they’ve tried and given up because nothing stuck.
Why Fitness Is the Cure
I believe fitness is the answer—not because it magically solves every problem, but because it’s the foundation that makes everything else possible.
Fitness gives you:
- Energy to keep up with your kids or grandkids.
- Strength to carry life’s weight—literally and figuratively.
- Confidence to feel good in your own skin.
- Resilience to bounce back when life knocks you down.
It’s not about chasing perfection. It’s about building a body and mind that can carry you through all of life’s moments—big and small.
Why I Coach
So when someone at that wedding asked me why I do what I do, my answer was simple:
I help people feel good again.
I help them become the version of themselves that’s been hiding under the stress, the doubt, and the busyness of life.
That’s what coaching is really about. Not handing out workouts. Not prescribing diets. But guiding people toward a version of themselves that is stronger, healthier, and more confident.
And I can tell you this: when someone rediscovers their energy, their joy, their sense of control—it changes everything.
That’s why I do it.
Not out of ego. Not because I think fitness alone solves every problem.
But because I’ve seen it transform lives—over and over again.
The Takeaway
So yes, I own a gym.
But the real work we do at The Well is about so much more than that.
We help people live better. We help them realize their potential. We help them become who they’re meant to be.
And that, to me, is the most important work in the world. 💙
