Do you know how long the average personal trainer lasts in this industry?

One year.

I thought it was closer to three, but after a quick search, the answer is one.
And honestly, that’s a shame.

But I get it.

Your entire training schedule can fall apart in 30 minutes, taking a chunk of your income with it.
You’re expected to bring high energy to wildly different people, back-to-back-to-back.
You’re constantly remembering who likes what, who hates what, who needs a push, and who needs patience.
You adjust your personality on the fly so your client feels comfortable, confident, and supported.

You get hit with hard questions you’re not always prepared for.
People are unpredictable. They make emotional decisions. And that’s okay, because they’re human.

On top of all that, you spend hours each day pouring into others. Helping them live better, longer, healthier lives.
Then it’s time to take care of yourself, and you’re running on empty.

The truth is, trainers are some of the most kind, passionate, and hard-working people out there.
This is one of the few professions where almost everyone gets into it because they care deeply. You rarely meet a trainer who says, “I’m not passionate about health or helping people, I’m just good at it.”

That passion is a gift.
But it can also turn trainers into martyrs.

They undercharge.
They overgive.
They sacrifice their own well-being because they genuinely want to help.

And I love that about them.

But if we truly want to help as many people as possible, we have to stay in the game longer than a year.
We have to build relationships that last.
We have to earn trust that compounds over time.

That’s why every decision I make as a leader at The Well starts with our coaches.
Does this help our staff show up better?
Does this help them serve people well without burning out?

If the answer is no, we don’t do it. Or we find a better way that aligns with our vision.

It is possible to build a real career in coaching. A great one.
It takes hard work, patience, mentorship, structure, and some tough conversations.
But on the other side of those things is something special.

This is the best job in the world.

We get to directly impact lives.
We see the results of our work with our own eyes.
We build relationships so strong that training sessions start to feel like time spent with a friend.

And when it’s done right, you’re surrounded by coworkers who are just like you.
Kind. Compassionate. Invested.
People who give the same care and energy to each other that they give to their clients.

My goal is simple.
Help trainers stay.
Help them grow.
Help them thrive in an industry that needs them more than ever.

Because when coaches win, everyone does.
